        There's more to characters than meets the eye.
Explore the myriad aspects of creating credible, well-rounded
characters readers will care about.

Fantasy World Building:  Not Just a Copy of Medieval Europe.
        Creating a setting that lives and breaths and is believably
consistant is much more than physical surroundings
and non-tech trappings.

SF World Building: More Than Planet Building.
        Earthbound?  Space faring?  Aliens?  Generation ships?
The variables are endless and then you have to make it real.

Conflict & Plot -or- How to Torture Your Characters With Style
        No matter how much you like your characters, you must
make really bad things happen to them, or there is no story.

Revision:  The Necessary Surgery of Prose
        Deciding when to add and when to cut, even when it hurts.

Novels vs. Short Stories:  More Than Just Word Count
        Two entirely different animals.  Which should you write?

Basic Mechanics:
What You Don't Know Can Kill Your Story's Chances
        Manuscript format, cover letters, market research,
contracts, rights grabs and all those other pesky
little details you do have to bother with.

        Any questions you'd like to ask that weren't covered by the
workshop?  Now's your chance.

  This is a hands-on workshop -- come prepared to write!

        Members of the convention should sign up for the workshop
at registration when they arrive.  There is no additional charge for
the workshop other than your con membership, but you must sign-up for the
workshop if you wish to attend it.  Space will be limited.

Participants will receive 2 copies of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writer's of
America magazine The Bulletin, as well as an assortment of other useful goodies still being negotiated.
